That’s me deflating.
I’ve been working on a book for four years. I know that sounds like a long time, but I’d only really dipped in and out of it until this year. Now my lovely, unique idea is kind of common. No, it’s not vampires, but there’s a similar saturation in the marketplace. Even an agent said this week that there was a flood of this kind of ‘mythology’.
I know in my heart that my take on the sub-genre is good, but I’m still a little disappointed to find that the original idea I had four years ago isn’t really that original! Grrrr.
I almost feel as if my idea has passed its ‘sell by’ date but I shall wade on regardless, and hope that I can offer a different voice from the other manuscripts out there. Grrrr. Did I say that before ? Grrrr.

Do not give up on your idea! The marketplace being flooded is a challenge, but unique perspectives on well-worn idea's flourish all the time. Run it up the flagpole anyway.
Thank you DL for your kind words. Your pep-talk made me wake up with a new determination :) I'm going to work a little harder and nail it (or die trying!).
It's always nice to meet another Suze. :)
I don't think I can say it better than my friend DL.
Amen, DL!
Thank you Suzette, or should I say - Flaming June? :)
Oh, so sorry! And I echo the others -- don't give up!! You never know what the market will be like next year. Or next month for that matter. :)
Yes. I think you should go with it! If it's been simmering and you're passionate about it and so ready to write it, you should do it. I'm betting you can bring a different voice and perspective into the genre you pursue.
I've let my idea simmer for almost seven years! I just completed chapter one and I'm continuing on even if it may never find a home.
Happy writing wishes to you!
Elana: Thank you so much. I do feel invigorated now!
And
Chasing the Moon, I'm excited to hear you're writing too... I hope you'll share some with us when you're ready!
