E Book Extravaganza!

So it’s been a while, but all I’ve been doing is reading and writing. No arithmetic, however: I would never dare do math in public—it would not be a pretty sight. The reading and writing I’m more than happy to do in public, and regularly do. But with little to surprise and delight you, I have not blogged since November. Hands up if you're surprised. Anyone? No?

Anyway, there are two lovely things happening online with E Books. The first: to bridge the gap between now, and Sarah J Maas’ Throne of Glass being published (in August 2012), she has released a novella that introduces her heroine, Celaena, in The Assassin and the Pirate Lord. I’ve just downloaded it, and can’t wait for a quiet moment this weekend when I can start reading.

The other thing is the publication of opera singer, Lorena Dureau’s back catalogue of out-of-print historical novels. I have just bought The Last Casquette Girl and am looking forward to diving in. Lorena was a musician, opera singer and successful writer; I can only imagine how her life experiences informed her writing. I can’t wait to find out!

I've also downloaded Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? For a spontaneous reader like me, I just love my second generation Kindle; I've probably tripled my book purchases just by having it, and I much prefer it to my in-laws' touch-screen Kindle. I like reading one-handed, and you really need two hands to read the newer Kindles.

Has anyone else had any old versus new Kindle issues? Are there big reading benefits in getting a newer gen Kindle?

Hey, stranger. How ya been? :)

I have a Kindle 3G, and love it. I'm really not interested in upgrading to a Kindle Fire -- if I wanted a backlit screen, I would have gotten an iPad. I love the e-ink on the Kindle because it's so easy on the eyes.

Hey Suze! I got the ipad for Christmas, after lots of hemming and hawing between it and the fire. I love having an e-reader, but I can't compare kindles. I have already found myself buying more books than before. I also just realized I can borrow e books through my library, which I LOVE.

Hey, you are right on my blogpost! Haha, I was so focused on its vs it's that I didn't notice I should've used a singular noun. Anyway. I fixed it.

Hmm, interesting! I actually don't know if I have a new or old Kindle. I bought it off my mom when she got a Kindle Fire. :D

Linda -- I think I have a Kindle 3G... it's white, with clicky pads on both sides to turn the page. I like that! It means I can turn the page with one hand, instead of holding the Kindle with one hand and tapping my finger on the screen. I love the e-ink too. I swear this is my favorite gadget!

Katharine -- Wow, someone must love you a whole lot to get you an iPad for Christmas! I kinda wanted one, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it.. I'm at home most of the time with access to my PC. Maybe when I'm a high-flyings (insert profession here) I'll be able to get one! Let me know how you get on with it!

Ophelia -- I LOVED 'Is Everyone Hanging out...'. I finished it in two evenings and it was lovely. I really hope she turns her hand to fiction...what a great voice she has.

Carol -- I laughed to read that you got your Kindle from your mum... I, too, seem to get my 'new' technology when someone else considers it 'old technology' and needs to upgrade! I'm glad I'm not alone :)
